An ERA Ageing Strategy was developed to cater for the changing needs of older people in the eastern region. The strategy was informed by a range of consultations and focus groups that were conducted with local residents, regional service providers and local community groups and associations.

A significant proportion of Council’s operating budget is spent on the maintenance and operations of Council parks and gardens, street scapes, footpaths, roads and drainage infrastructure. Council Depots manage this component of their operations utilising a combination of council employed field staff and contractors.
Communities require open space and leisure facilities for enjoyment, relaxation, health and lifestyle reasons. People of all ages seek both passive and active recreation, and these facilities need to be located close to where people choose to live and work.
The Eastern Region of councils (ERA) share the challenges of a changing population profile, a Federal and State responsibility and in some areas a local, strategic objective to increase population and housing density/diversity whilst achieving an environmentally sustainable future that meets the community’s aspirations for local amenity, character and services.
